Last season, the 34 year old Nelson pitched in 59 games with and ERA of 2.00 and a WHIP of 1.19. This was his first very successful season. He is as cheap as they come. He isn't expected to make much more than 1 mil a year and his contract would be short. Why not give him a shot?
Joe Nelson, reliever for the Marlins, was non-tendered a few days ago. It has been said that 19 teams have contacted his agent about picking him up. With this in mind, there is a large chance that the Yankees were one of those teams. I would encourage taking a flyer on the guy.
