Catcher- Solid- Jorge is progressing in rehab and Molina is a fine back up.
First Base- Good- The trade for Nick Swisher was a great deal for us and plugged up a defensive and offensive hole. Swisher is an OBP king, and he will hopefully pick up a lot of the slack that we lose with the departure of Abreu and Giambi. He is very capable defensively and we haven't had a solid defensive first basemen in a long time. Juan Miranda should be a good backup
2nd- No Hole-Cano has the potential to be a VERY successful hitter, and hopefully he'll pick it back up next season. He is not great defensively but he's fine for now.
3rd- No Hole- Arod is the most controversial player on the yankees. He is a fantastic hitter, can play a good third, and runs well. I'd say there are no issues here.
SS- No Hole- Jeter is the captain and he isn't going anywhere
LF/RF- Johnny Damon/ X Nady- Ok here.
CF- Here is a hole for the Yankees. The Yankees have Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardener as their CFs. Neither are accomplished in the majors. Both play spectacular defense but both have trouble hitting the ball. The Yankees should explore the trade market and see if they can put together a deal. Mike Cameron has been discussed. Kevin likes Spilbourghs. I personally think that the Yankees should go after David Dejesus of the Royals.
Starting Pitching- Sabathia/Wang/Burnett/Chamberlain/?- Sabathia was obviously a huge signing. He really sures up the rotation. Burnett though, is a huge injury risk, pitching 30 games only 2 times in his career. If he can stay healthy, the rotation is solid. If not, Hughes and IPK can fill in. 5th starter job is up for grabs
Relief- Good. A lot of people stepped up last year. Lets hope it continues.
Closer- I'm not even going to discuss
Thanks RAB for the Depth Chart!
